Inter president delighted with 'very successful' Onana to Manchester United deal
Inter CEO Guiseppe Marotta has spoken with glee about the deal that saw Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana move to Manchester United after only a year at the club.
Inter president happy with Onana transfer
Onana left Inter this summer in a deal that cost Manchester United €52.5m and could also cost them another €5m in add-ons, leaving Marotta understandably happy as the goalkeeper was signed for free from Ajax just a year prior.
Marotta was speaking at the Gazzetta dello Sport Festival, when he spoke about memorable and profitable deals during his tenure as Inter president, including the sale of Onana.
He recalled signing Onana after the Cameroonian had just finished serving a suspension for a doping violation, and told reporters, “Anything can happen in football, even if those who return do not always have positive results. It was an important experience for him and for us.
“It was also a very successful deal for us to get him for free and sell him for all that money.”
Onana struggling in start to Manchester United spell
Manchester United fans might not see eye to eye with Marotta on the success of Onana’s singing, however, as the Red Devils continue to leak goals since the Cameroonian’s arrival.
Onana was signed to replace David de Gea, who left Manchester United after a 12-year spell with the Red Devils, but the former Ajax stopper has failed to make the expected impact since signing for the Premier League giants.
The Cameroonian goalkeeper has conceded 19 goals in 11 matches already, keeping only three clean sheets in all competitions at the start of his Manchester United career.
Fans of the Red Devils will be hoping that they too will soon see the deal to sign Onana as successful, as claimed by the Inter CEO.
