"It's hard to explain why" - Amorim reveals reason for Onana's departure

Since joining Manchester United, Onana has come under criticism from fans and pundits for some of his underwhelming performances in front of goal.

Following this, he decided to leave the club on loan and join Turkish side Trabzonspor and was replaced by a new goalkeeper.

Ruben Amorim's pre-Manchester derby press conference was dominated by the recent transfer window, which saw Manchester United swap goalkeepers, loaning André Onana to Trabzonspor and signing Lammens from Antwerp.

"I think we understood that a change was needed, and sometimes it's hard to explain why. Sometimes it's timing, bad luck at certain moments. It's tough for him, for us.

"Our idea is to make a change in goal, but I wish André Onana all the best. He was very good at working and trying to help the players, but sometimes you can have all the quality in the world, but a change is needed," he stated, as reported by Abola.

Regarding the match, Amorim confirmed three absences for Sunday's game, including Portuguese international Diogo Dalot, who felt muscle discomfort at the start of the national team training camp and joined Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount in the medical department.

"They are out of this game. I don't know how long it will take. We need our players to be a very competitive team, but we have very good players who are eager to play, so we will be competitive on Sunday, but they are out.

"They cannot help us in this game. I don't want to give a date. If you talk to Cunha, he'll say he's fit to play this game [laughs]. So, I don't know. We'll deal with it day by day. They are working very hard, and that's good," he explained.
