Jacob Kiplimo’s Next Major Marathon Revealed as He Eyes Historic World Record
Uganda’s marathon great Jacob Kiplimo will be seeking to defend his Chicago Marathon title this year after his plans for the rest of the year were revealed.
Kiplimo was part of a historic London Marathon race in April, when he clocked 2:00:28 to finish third, in an event that had Kenya’s Sabastian Sawe becoming the first man to run an official marathon under two hours with Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha doing the same.
Sawe clocked a historic 1:59:30 while Kejelcha followed in second place in a time of 1:59.41 before Kiplimo completed the podium in a time that was good enough to break the previous world record of 2:00:35 set by the late Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum in Chicago in 2023.
Can Kiplimo Improve his Personal Best?
Kiplimo, who won the 2025 Chicago race in 2:02:23, will be hoping for a historic feat in the ‘Windy City’ this year following the high standards set in London after his Italian manager Gianni Demadonna confirmed him for the race.
Demadonna, who also manages Sawe and Kejelcha, revealed the plans for the three marathoners with no showdown between them again this year.
“The goal is to do better in Berlin, I think Sawe will be there while Kejelcha will do Valencia and Kiplimo I think Chicago,” Demadonna told Quotidiano Sportivo.
The 25-year-old five-time World Cross Country champion has come of age in the marathons since making the transition to the 42km race in 2025 and will be favoured to retain his title in Chicago.
