Jake Paul fires back at critics: 'Baddest ever' Tyson is a beast
Jake Paul has fired back at critics following his recent victory over boxing legend Mike Tyson, defending the former champion and expressing his respect for him.
After their highly publicised bout, which took place at AT&T Stadium in front of nearly 70,000 fans and was live streamed by Netflix, Paul took to social media to respond to a Pier Morgan's comment regarding Tyson's performance.
The Piers had stated, “Prime @MikeTyson would have destroyed @jakepaul in 90 seconds. A 58-year-old Tyson went 8 rounds against a much fitter and very capable boxer half his age. Mock him all you like, but Mike’s got the heart of a lion, balls of steel, and will always be an absolute legend.”
In response, Paul quoted the post with admiration, saying, “Who mocked him? He’s a fucking beast. All respect to the Baddest Ever. It was an honor to share the ring with him @MikeTyson.”
Paul's comments come after he defeated Tyson by unanimous decision, with the judges scoring the fight 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73 in favor of the YouTube star.
The match marked Tyson's return to the ring after nearly two decades away from professional boxing. Despite initial excitement, many fans were left disappointed by the fight’s pace as Tyson struggled against the younger Paul.
In his post-fight remarks, Paul acknowledged that he let off the gas during the later rounds, stating, "I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn't want to hurt someone that didn't need to be hurt."
This sentiment echoed throughout social media reactions where many expressed concern over Tyson's performance due to his age.
Despite mixed reviews about the fight itself, Paul continues his boxing career with a record of 11 wins and just one loss. He is now looking ahead to future fights while honouring the legacy of a boxing icon like Mike Tyson.
