The Portuguese's contract as the head coach of the Nigerian national team expires at the end of the month, prompting questions about his future.

What Peseiro said

As Pulse Sports gathered from an interview he gave to the media during the squad's first day of training, the former head coach of the Venezuelan national team was vague regarding his future as the Super Eagles coach.

When asked, he replied that his future was to prepare the team for the clash against Sierra Leone and qualify for the AFCON.

"My future with the Super Eagles is to train today, tomorrow and prepare for the Sierra Leone game, beat them, and qualify for AFCON."

Nigeria failed to confirm qualification in the last international break when they lost to Guinea-Bissau in Abuja in the first-leg of the double-header against the Djurtus.

However, they can seal their place in AFCON 2023, which takes place in Ivory Coast next year, by beating the Leone stars on the 18th of this month.

It remains to be seen if Peseiro will be handed a renewal, having lost five of his eight games in charge of the three-time AFCON champions, but a defeat to Sierra Leone could hamper his chances.
