That defeat has seemingly taken an unexpected turn, with Ittihad’s player and 2022 Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema seemingly choosing a path of digital seclusion.

This week, fans and followers noticed the conspicuous absence of Karim Benzema's Instagram account shortly after Al-Ittihad's devastating loss to Al-Nassr, a team captained by none other than football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Al-Ittihad were thumped 5-2 by Al-Nassr, with Ronaldo scoring a brace of penalties, while Sadio Mane grabbed a brace for himself.

Benzema provided an assist to open the scoring for the hosts in the 14th minute at the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium.

However, that would be Benzema’s only contribution in the encounter as his side ultimately lost the game, slipping to sixth in the Saudi Pro League as a result.

Benzema, one of the most followed footballers in the world, seemingly took the decision to de-activate his account on Meta’s platform.

Although, it remains unclear why the veteran French striker took such action.

Since signing for Al Ittihad last summer, Benzema has scored 12 goals and created 5 assists in 20 appearances so far for the Saudi giants.
