Karim Benzema denies link with 'terrorist group,' threatens to sue France Interior Minister over allegations

During the summer transfer window, the forward signed an £86 million per year contract with Saudi Arabia's Al-Ittihad.

He was then accused this week by France's Interior Minister of having "notorious" ties to the terrorist group The Muslim Brothers. 

Benzema has now denied any link to a terrorist group as claimed by France's Interior Minister and has threatened a lawsuit over the allegation.

Benzema took to his social media to speak concerning the current crisis between Palestine and Israel.

The former Madrid star said he was praying for Palestinians who were suffering as a result of Israel's attacks.

He wrote on his Twitter X account as reported by Daily Mail, “All our prayers for the habitants of Gaza, once again victims of these unjust bombings that spare neither women nor children.”

The former French international was then criticised by his nation's lawmakers on Tuesday night, according to CNews channel commentator and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, “Mr Benzema has notorious links with the Muslim Brotherhood.”

In 2021, the Muslim Brotherhood was formally designated as a terrorist organisation when Austria outlawed the organisation in accordance with a new anti-terrorism law that had been approved by its Parliament in July of that year.

Le Parisien reports that Benzema's attorney has indicated that they are thinking about suing the lawmaker for slander and manipulation while in a position of authority.

The lawyer told the French newspaper, “We are considering proceedings against this minister in application, for example, of the law on the manipulation of information dear to our government... and defamation or even public insult, because this non-existent link with the Muslim Brotherhood, which he says is notorious, is obviously presented as derogatory.”
