KCCA Set to Lose Top Midfielder to Kenyan Champions

Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are looking to reinforce their squad for the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign and have identified a key target in Ugandan midfielder Bright Anukani.

The club is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) to secure the services of the highly-rated playmaker.

Gor Mahia's interest has intensified following the recent departure of last season's Kenyan Premier League MVP, Ghanaian Enock Morrison, who moved to Sudanese club Al Merrikh, leaving a significant void in their midfield.

According to Sports Light, formal discussions have commenced between Gor Mahia and KCCA for Anukani, who has one year remaining on his contract. KCCA are believed to be open to a sale if a suitable offer is made, and the player himself is reportedly eager for the move.

The 25-year-old midfielder is renowned for his creativity, vision, and ability to operate effectively in confined spaces. Despite a 2025-26 season hampered by injuries that limited his playing time, Anukani's talent for delivering defence-splitting passes is seen as a major asset that could unlock goal-scoring opportunities for K’Ogalo.

Beyond his technical skills, Anukani would also bring valuable international experience to the 22-time Kenyan champions. He has earned nine caps for Uganda, representing the Cranes in major competitions, including the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Gor Mahia's Ghanaian coach, Charles Akonnor, has publicly stated that the midfield and attack are priority areas for reinforcement. The club's management will be keen to finalise the deal for Anukani as they prepare for their return to continental football.
