Kenya Police CEO Japheth Munyendo has explained why the club finds it very easy to attract sponsorships following their recent deal struck with Cooperative bank over a 25 million package to help with their season’s operational costs.

Police, who clinched their maiden league title last season, have attracted a number of partners, including gaming firm Betika, as well as airline company 748 Air Services.

Their recent additional deal with Cooperative bank will help cover their CAF Champions League campaign, as they seek to down Sudan’s Al Ahly to seal a group stage place for the season.

Speaking about the club’s growing brand appeal, Munyendo was full of praise for chairman Nyale  Munga’s stewardship, describing him as a leader whose professionalism and integrity have transformed how potential partners view the club.

“I have to give kudos to our chairman Nyale Munga,” Munyendo said. “If most clubs could replicate his leadership, we would be very far ahead as a football nation. He makes things easy for us.”

Munyendo explained that the club’s transparent and accountable approach to financial management has been key in building sponsor confidence.

“Sometimes we ask for a lot of sponsorships, but the sponsors need to understand what they’re getting in return,” he noted.

“Accountability and transparency are key. Some sponsors don’t even want publicity; they just want every coin accounted for — and that’s what we prioritise.”

As the club prepares for its crucial CAF Champions League qualifier against Sudanese giants Al Hilal Omdurman, Munyendo emphasised that every aspect of their preparation — from squad strengthening to logistical support — has been guided by professionalism and long-term vision.

How We Conduct Recruitment

Munyendo also addressed recent changes to the squad, including the departures of seasoned players such as Musa Mohammed, Patrick Matasi, Duncan Otieno, Kenneth Muguna, and Francis Kahata.

“These things are done under the technical bench’s recommendations,” he explained. “We don’t like involving ourselves too much. The technical team didn’t think some players were good enough to take us to the next level, and for others, their contracts simply expired.”

He reiterated that the club’s management maintains clear boundaries, allowing the technical team — led by coach Etienne Ndayiragije — to make football-related decisions independently.

David ‘Messi Okoth Under the Best Rehabilitation Program

Munyendo also gave an update on fan-favourite David ‘Messi’ Okoth, who has been struggling with recurring injuries.

“Messi is a fantastic player and one of our own officers,” he said. “Unfortunately, his injuries have taken a toll on his career, but he is under the right medical guidance from our team doctor, Noel Mandi, who also serves as the national team’s doctor.”

He added that player welfare remains a top priority at the club, pointing to the recent transfer of Mohammed Bajaber to Tanzanian giants Simba SC as proof of Kenya Police’s commitment to supporting player growth.

“When a club like Simba comes for one of your players, you can’t deny him that opportunity. It shows we are developing talent that can compete at the highest levels.”

Looking Ahead

As Kenya Police FC gears up for continental football, Munyendo believes that the combination of strong leadership, financial discipline, and professional management will ensure the team not only represents Kenya with pride but also sets a benchmark for club governance in African football.
