Neymar joined Al-Hilal at the start of the season, but a brutal ankle injury limited his involvement to a handful of games. He is still recuperating, hence, he was in the stands while his teammates battled against the Ronaldo-led Faris Najd.

Al-Hilal's top scorer, Aleksandar Mitrovic, gave his team an early lead in the seventh minute. Things looked even better for the league champions when Al-Nassr's goalkeeper, David Ospina, was sent off for handling the ball outside the box. However, the match took a dramatic turn late on as both of Al-Hilal’s starting centre-backs received red cards, giving Al-Nassr a lifeline.

Ali Albulahyi was sent off in the 77th minute, and Al-Nassr quickly capitalised with an equaliser from Ayman Ahmed. Just minutes later, Kalidou Koulibaly also saw red, leaving Al-Hilal with nine men and the momentum firmly with Al-Nassr.

Despite their numerical advantage, Al-Nassr couldn't find a winner in extra time, leading to a penalty shootout. Both teams missed their first penalties, then scored the next four, and missed their sixth attempts. In the seventh round, Al-Nemer missed his shot for Al-Nassr, and Al-Dawsari scored for Al-Hilal, clinching the title for Al-Hilal.
