Kitovu, Amus College register opening wins as Kitende send warning ahead of Kibuli showdown
Uganda representatives at the East Africa Secondary Schools games started on a high as the football championships launched on a high in Huye District in Rwanda over the weekend.
Record 12-time champions St. Mary’s Kitende thumped Kiwira Coal Mine from Tanzania 3-0 in the biggest win on the day.
Sadik Mansur’s double guided the Kitende to the top of Group B ahead of their highly-billed derby against defending champions Kibuli SS on Monday.
In the other match, newly-signed URA forward Godfrey Ssekibengo grabbed a brace as St. Henry’s Kitovu debuted at the regional championship with a 2-0 win over Kalangala from Tanzania.
Amus College registered a similar result over Kenya’s Shanderema courtesy of Allan Oyirwoth’s double.
In the girls’ category, Kawempe Muslim and holders St. Noa rolled off on a positive note with 3-1 and 2-1 victories over Butere Girls (Kenya) and Ziba SS from Tanzania, respectively.
