Leicester vs Tottenham: Ndidi goal-line clearance helps Foxes grab crucial point on Premier League return

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was immense on both ends of the pitch as he helped Leicester win a point on their Premier League return.

Tottenham scored first to silence the ruckus Kings Power, and threatened to blow away the newly promoted side. But Leicester soon showed why theywon the Championships as they scored to earn a point in what ended a 1-1 draw.

Tottenham had a peppy start to the game and could have gone ahead inside eight minutes but for a heroic intervention from Ndidi. A beautiful ball was delivered into debutant Dominic Solanke’s path, needing a mere poke to give Tottenham the lead, but the Nigerian midfield dynamo reacted quickest and cleared his lines.  

Tottenham continue to push for an opener, suffocating Leicester in their half. They eventually broke the deadlock in the 29th minute when James Maddison’s cross was headed beautifully into goal by Pedro Porro. Spurs could have scored more, but the first-half ended with that lone goal. 

Steve Cooper’s side were much improved in the second-half, and with the fans on their back, they found the energy and started to threaten. 

They got a deserved equaliser before the hour mark, thanks to their eternal hero, Jamie Vardy. The 37-year-old was left unmarked in the box and was picked out expertly by a beautiful floater from Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawi Issahaku. 

What followed was a barrage of attacks from Leicester, but Tottenham soon steadied themselves and resumed dominance, leaving the Foxes to resort to counter-attacks. 

Leicester came close to snatching it late on when Stephy Mavididi robbed fellow substitute Lucas Bergvall and crossed to Ndidi; however, the Nigerian’s header was too tame and was a comfortable save for Guglielmo Vicario. 

Tottenham threw the kitchen sink late on in a bid to clinch maximum points, but the 2015 Premier League champions held on to a well-deserved point.
