Linton Maina impresses as FC Koln continue Bundesliga losing streak
It was an impressive individual outing for Linton Maina as his FC Koln side were beaten at home by Stuggart in a Bundesiga meeting between the two sides on Saturday afternoon.
Starting as a left sided attacker in a front three, Maina registered 51 touches of the ball, was successful with 28 of his 29 attempted passes and registered five key passes.
The expected assist chart shows that he should have registered an assist with a value of 0.49, which was also counted as a big chance created according to Sofascore.
He also looked good taking his man on, as he was successful with all three of his attempted dribbles.
Of the ball, he also put a shift in, as he won four of his six attempted ground duels and recorded two tackles and interceptions.
Despite this performance, he could not help the German outfit to their first win of the season, as they now lie perilously close to relegation, occupying 16th place on just one point after six league games played.
Stuttgart opened the scoring through Deniz Undav in the 68th minute when he got of a Cris Furich assist to slot the ball home.
Koln tried to pile on the pressure to equalize, but late in the game, were punished by Undav yet again, leaving them with plenty of work to do if they are to climb up the table and avoid the drop for the first time since 2018.
Maina is born to a German mother and a Kenyan father. Having played for Germany up to the Under 20s level, he could still feature for Harambee Stars in the future.
