The Reds were coming back from a controversial loss at the weekend against Tottenham and were looking to get back to winning ways.

They were able to secure a 2-0 victory against Union Saint-Gilloise despite struggling for most of the game.

Ryan Gravenberch's first-half goal put Liverpool ahead in the game and a second goal from Diogo Jota in the second half sealed the game for the English side.

Trent Alexander-Arnold starts and captains Liverpool for their Europa League tie with Union Saint-Gilloise at Anfield.

The full-back's return is one of nine changes made by the Reds, with just goalkeeper Alisson and forward Mohamed Salah retaining their places.

The game started with Liverpool trying to push for the first goal but to no avail. They found it hard to create chances but eventually opened the scoring through a counter-attack.

Liverpool breaks quickly and Darwin Nunez sets up Trent Alexander-Arnold for a shot that Anthony Moris can't hold and flaps out for Ryan Gravenberch to stroll into slot home.

The first half ended with Liverpool having a slim lead despite not being impressive in most of the game.

Liverpool came out for the second half all sharp and ready to go but could not get another goal until injury time.

Just a few minutes before the final whistle was blown the Reds went up 2-0 Diogo Jota was sent through on goal and slotted in a low shot past the goalkeeper.
