Lyles was one of 12 Alexandrians to receive the annual honor during a ceremony held at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.

"It’s a blessing to be honored," Lyles told local news outlet ALXnow. "Sometimes people just go about their day and think that that’s enough. Luckily, what I do, people get inspiration from."

The recognition follows a stellar season for Lyles, who secured his fourth consecutive 200-meter title at the World Championships in Tokyo this September. He also earned a bronze medal in the 100 meters and anchored the US 4x100m relay team to a gold medal victory.

His recent achievements build on a successful campaign at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won a gold medal in a dramatic 100-meter photo finish and a bronze in the 200 meters.

Why Was Noah Lyles Honored?

Back in his hometown, Lyles has previously been awarded the key to the city and is an inductee in the Alexandria City Public Schools’ Athletic Hall of Fame.

The Living Legends of Alexandria awards aim to "identify, honor and chronicle the lives of individuals who have contributed to the community in an exemplary and lasting way."

In a letter to the recipients, Mayor Alyia Gaskins praised their contributions, noting that only a select few are chosen each year.

"You were chosen because of your dedicated service, leadership and love for the Alexandria community," Gaskins wrote. "Your actions reflect the very best of our city and exemplify our values of inclusiveness, kindness and civic pride."

The complete list of the 2025 Living Legends of Alexandria was also announced at the event.
