The argument quickly escalated into a melee involving players and coaches from both sides, with Suarez at the heart of the confrontation.

Team-mate Oscar Ustari attempted to restrain the 38-year-old, but Suarez's notorious temper flared when he allegedly spat in the face of a member of the Sounders' backroom team, identified as security director Gene Ramirez.
When asked about the post-match incidents, Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano offered a brief comment.
"I don't have much to say," he stated. "None of us likes to see this kind of behavior. When there’s a reaction, it usually means there was some provocation."
Suarez Spoils Seattle Sounders’ Cup Celebrations
The incident marred a historic victory for the Sounders, who became the first MLS team to win all five annual trophies available to clubs in the league.
Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer expressed his disappointment that the controversy might overshadow his team's achievement.

"My statement is, unfortunately, that is going to take some of the attention away from what was a great Sounders performance," Schmetzer said. "I can take it as a compliment that their players were frustrated, and frustrations led to some things that shouldn’t happen on the field."
"But that shouldn’t be the story," he continued. "I’m going to shut that down. I’m going to say that the story is [goalkeeper] Andrew Thomas having a good run of games and winning a Leagues Cup. Pedro [de la Vega] winning his trophy, Alex [Roldan] winning his MVP, Reed Baker-Whiting coming on in tough circumstances, Cristian [Roldan] gutting through an injury. The story of this game is not what happened after the fact. The story of the game is the Seattle Sounders."
In a later interview, Schmetzer added, "I’ll let the commissioner, I’ll let the people in charge deal with whatever happened at the end of the game."
Luis Suarez's History of Controversy
Suarez's decorated playing career has been repeatedly marred by disciplinary problems that have led to lengthy suspensions.
In November 2010, he was banned for two matches and fined for biting PSV's Ottman Bakkal while at Ajax and in July that year, he denied Ghana a World Cup semi-final spot with a deliberate handball that prevented a certain goal.
In December 2011, Suarez was handed an eight-match ban and a £40,000 fine for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra while in April 2013, he was suspended for 10 matches after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic during a Premier League game.
It did not end there as the following year, he was banned for four months from all football-related activities after biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a 2014 World Cup match in Brazil.
