Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapses minutes into Championship Playoff final

Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer collapsed after picking up a worrying injury during Saturday's Championship play-off final against Coventry City.

However, he was conscious when he was carried off down the tunnel as his teammates looked on, concerned.

Lockyer fell over while running backwards in the opening stages of the game, and a lengthy delay followed before he was stretchered off the pitch.

The 28-year-old received medical treatment at the stadium, with his parents rushing from the stands to see him. The skipper will undergo more medical tests to ascertain what the problem is.

"We are able to report that after collapsing on the pitch, Tom Lockyer has been taken to the hospital for further tests. He is responsive and talking to his family, who are with him. We are all with you, Locks," Luton tweeted following the incident.

He was replaced by Reece Burke.

Lockyer was recently named the club’s Player of the Season, and losing the defender in this game was a big blow for Luton.

With three goals in four appearances, including the winner in their play-off semi-final victory over Sunderland, Lockyer had found good scoring form.
