Man United captain Bruno Fernandes explains why he gave Rashford the penalty against Everton
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes explained why he deferred penalty responsibility to Marcus Rashford against Everton, despite the game being far from won.
Ten Hag's squad destroyed the Toffees 3-0 at Goodison Park, vaulting themselves into the top six and keeping Everton firmly in the relegation zone.
Alejandro Garnacho scored the first goal of the game with an incredible strike, and Marcus Rashford added a second goal from the penalty spot. Manchester United won handily, with Anthony Martial completing the scoring.
What Fernandes said
Manchester United were handed the chance to go 2-0 up after Martial was fouled in the box, and first-choice taker Bruno passed the ball off to struggling forward Rashford; he explained his reason after the match.
"I think he needed a goal,” he said, per the BBC.
“I was sure he was going to score; he is one of the penalty-takers too. I thought it was the moment for him to have and score.
"I am really happy he scored a boost of confidence for him. He could take on any player [after that] and a threat to Everton again."
