Man United vs Aston Villa: Ten Hag reveals how he inspired his players to come back from two goals to win 3-2
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag has gone into detail on the content of his half-time team talk that inspired his team to a comeback victory from two goals down.
The Red Devils beat high-flying Aston Villa 3-2 at Old Trafford after being 2-0 at half-time, to keep pace with the top teams in the division.
John McGinn gave Villa the lead in the 21st minute, and Leander Dendinker doubled it five minutes later. In the second-half, a double from Garnacho with strikes in the 59th and 71st minute, followed by a later Rasmus Hojlund goal in the 82nd minute, ensured victory for the hosts
What Ten Hag said
"Keep believing,” the Dutch manager started, when asked how he galvanised his team for the remarkable comeback, per the BBC.
“I think our fans they deserved it. They are always behind us and we've had so many setbacks. So I'm really pleased from the performance of this team. What kind of team can handle and deal with the amount of setbacks we have had?
"They are resilient, they have showed character and their personality to turn it around. I am very pleased with the performance of this team. Keep going, even when you get setbacks. Again we had so many setbacks today as well. Two set plays and we lose focus, also you can say very well done from Villa.
"But we created moments in the first half and you get disappointed you don't score. Straight after half-time we have a goal which is offside. But I am very pleased with the strength of my team and the character the team showed."
