Man United vs Newcastle United: Magpies end Red Devils' EFL Cup title defence in embarrassing fashion
Nightmare at the Theatre of Dreams as Newcastle United trumped Manchester United 3-0 to dump them out of the EFL Cup.
Erik ten Hag's side hosted the Magpies at Old Trafford as they looked to continue the defence of the League Cup title. The Red Devils put up a shambolic showing, however, and were railroaded by their visitors.
Miguel Almiron's strike in the first-half started the scoring for the Tyneside club. Lewis Hall made it two eight minutes later, and then Joe Willock wrapped up scoring on the hour mark.
How it happened
Newcastle laid down the gauntlet from the start, pressing with intensity, but Manchester United had chances of their own early on.
Eddie Howe was forced into an early change in the 5th minute of the game when Matt Targett suffered an injury.
Miguel Amiron replaced the left-back, and soon the Paraguayan broke the deadlock. Former Chelsea degener Tino Livramento drove the ball two-thirds of the pitch before laying the ball off to Almiron. The winger slotted the ball past Andre Onana to put Newcastle ahead.

The Magpies made it two in the 36th minute of the game thanks to a wonder strike from the outside of Lewis Hall's boot.
A couple chances fell to Anthony Martial at the start of the first-half, but the Frenchman could do nothing with them.
Joe Wllock piled on the Red Devils misery on the hour mark, placing the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.
