Manchester United legend Gary Neville comes for Arsenal after title collapse
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has reacted to Arsenal’s shocking capitulation in the Premier League title race.
Neville was criticised wildly by Arsenal fans after he predicted that the Gunners won’t beat Manchester City to the league title despite being eight points clear.
“I don’t think Manchester City have started properly yet,” Neville said months ago according to this video from Twitter.
“But when they start to purr, they will start to motor on and really hunt Arsenal down. Arsenal could hold off City (come the end of the season), but i don’t think they will once it starts.
The real run-in is not starting for another nine games. It doesn’t start until like April,” he added at the time.
His latest reaction follows Arsenal’s stunning defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates on Sunday.
Brighton stun Arsenal
The Seagulls made it three wins in three visits to the Emirates following a comprehensive 3-0 win over the Gunners.
All the goals were scored in an excellent second half display from the visitors as Arsenal’s title aspirations suffered a major blow and final dent.
With the defeat, Mikel Arteta and his Gunners sit four points behind leaders Manchester City, who still have a game in hand with just two games left to play.
Neville reacts
Following the defeat, the former United star has been trending on social media as rival fans shared his famous prediction.
In a swift reaction, the SkySport pundit has taken to his official account to add his voice to Arsenal’s title collapse.
“Arsenal have had a great season but when the going got tough they struggled,” Neville posted on Twitter.
“It seems now the narrative is that it’s City’s strength, injuries and a tough run in is the cause. These are normal factors that need pricing into a title race. Arsenal have dropped 12 pts in 7 games! Won 9pts from a possible 21.”
The Sky Sport pundit added that the Gunners have struggled for loss of form and buckled at the pressure when it mattered the most.
“All the characteristics of it being too much have appeared. Loss of form, giving up leads, energy and legs going, making unforced errors not seen earlier in the season, young players becoming tense and losing their freedom of expression and others showing too much emotion when calmness is needed,” he added.
“I understand why we want to use less emotive language in 2023. However, in a high-performance environment and at an elite level, we must still recognise when pressure has taken its toll. That league table below was only 7 games and 5 weeks ago. I hope these Arsenal players are there again one day(if it’s not United) and can see it through
