Maradona's children ask for Argentine legend's corpse to be relocated from current grounds

Argentina and Napoli legend Diego Maradona's daughters have made a sincere request to the Argentine Courts to relocate their father's body to "a much safer place" where fans may pay respect in a mausoleum.

Since November 2020, Maradona's remains have been in a private cemetery on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. However, entry to this location is restricted, with only family members allowed in.

Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, children of the Argentine football demigod, and Veronica Ojeda, on behalf of Diego Maradona Jr., filed a motion with the court to relocate their father's body to protect its safety. They want to find a site where Argentinians and supporters from all around the world can pay tribute to the football legend.

The planned location for Maradona's bones is the "Memorial del Diez," a tomb behind Argentina's executive government palace, the Casa Rosada. The site is designed to be open to the public, allowing Maradona fans to visit and pay their tribute to one of the country’s greatest-ever players.

"The heirs request by common agreement to authorise the transfer to his next destination of eternal rest (...) in a much safer place than the current one," said the note presented to the court, signed by Dalma and Gianinna Maradona, and Ojeda on behalf of Diego Maradona Jr.

"The relocation will take place around Oct. 30, the birth date of the 1986 World Cup winner with Argentina," one of the family's lawyers told reporters.

Fans of the great Argentine will wait with bated breath, hoping for the day that they are able to view the remains of their beloved hero on display in a manner fitting an icon of the game.
