This deal comes after the Dallas Mavericks traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers, a major move for the franchise.

Williams is enjoying his greatest NBA season to date after being chosen from Duke with the 15th overall pick in the 2022 draft.

He is 7 feet tall and has shot 58.6% from the field while averaging 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Despite his outstanding play, he has only played 84 games in three seasons owing to injuries, mostly related to his back.

With Williams joining Doncic on the court, they intend to form a potent tandem that will guide them for a while.

Williams, who brings agility and verticality to the center position, complements Doncic and the team's style of play.

The Lakers' dedication to assembling a competitive team around their new acquisitions is demonstrated by the inclusion of an unprotected future first-round pick and a pick swap in 2030.
