Mark Philippoussis: Meet the 2-time Grand Slam finalist who made millions, lost it all, and ended up begging for food until a model walked into his life
Mark Philippoussis, a two-time Davis Cup champion, also reached two Grand Slam finals.
He was runner-up at Wimbledon in 2003, losing to Roger Federer in straight sets, and at the French Open in 1998, where he lost to Pat Rafter in four sets at the US Open.
He also competed in two Masters finals, falling to Marat Safin in a hard-fought match in Paris in 2000, and winning the title against Carlos Moya in Indian Wells in 1999.
All in all, a very enviable career for the 46-year-old.
However, his past wasn't so glamorous.
By 2008, Philippoussis had lost his fortune and fell into a deep depression.
He relied on friends for food for a significant period.
How Mark Philippoussis found redemption
His life changed after meeting Silvana Lovin, a Romanian-born model who built her career in Australia.
Philippoussis met Lovin in 2012 and married her a year later.
The 37-year-old model has given him two children, and they now enjoy a comfortable life.
"My wife and kids are number one, my main motivation, they are everything to me. I want to see my children grow up with their family, with their cousins, aunts, and uncles," Philippoussis stated some time ago, according to American media.
Today, Philippoussis has a stable career as a tennis coach.
Among others, the Australian has coached Stefanos Tsitsipas, reports SportSport.
"My priority is to instill strong family values. I'm inclined to think that a solid foundation in that regard can make you handle anything life throws at you," Lovin said in 2016.
Silvana Lovin has two children with Mark Philippoussis: a son born in 2014 and a daughter born in 2018.
Many wonder what would have become of the Australian had he not met Silvana...
