Sarah Moraa, Mary Moraa’s cousin, has opened up about the two key people who have played an important role in her career.

On Friday, Sarah finished third to earn a slot in the Olympics 800m team but is yet to attain the qualifying time at the event. The youngster cut the tape in 1:59.39, finishing third behind Lilian Odira who attained the time.

Odira crossed the finish line first in 1:59.27, to attain the time while Mary finished second, clocking 1:59.35. The women’s team to the Olympic team now comprises Mary Moraa, Sarah Sarah, and Odira.

Sarah was clearly over the moon, as she sang praises to her cousin and coach Alex Sang for pushing her to the limits and ensuring she manages to qualify for the global showpiece in Paris, France.

“I am thrilled to qualify…I don’t know how to explain myself. I came here but didn’t expect to run like this but our coach had plans for us,” she said.

“I didn’t have the morale and didn’t believe in myself but I’m so excited and this is the first time I have run this fast. I want to thank my coach and sister Mary Moraa…I have been with them since I started my career to date.

“They have given me the morale and I promise that we shall do something good…better than what we have done here. Moraa has motivated me to be better and there were times I lost hope but she kept encouraging me,” she said.

She explained how the world champion encouraged her to push for the Olympics slot but she never believed it was possible.

She now heads to the Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Douala, Cameroon scheduled for June 21 to 26 to try and attain the Olympics qualifying standard before the June 30 deadline.
