Mason Greenwood: Manchester United offer striker as part of Hojlund deal
Manchester United’s attempts to offload suspended striker Mason Greenwood continue as they reportedly offer the 21-year-old as part of a potential deal to sign Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund.
Greenwood’s Manchester United future up for speculation
Greenwood remains suspended by Manchester United while the club conducts an internal investigation into his conduct relating to an arrest in January 2022 on suspicion of rape, assault, and coercive behaviour.
The one-time England international had the charges dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their testimonies, but he remains suspended at Manchester United through their internal investigations.
There had been rumours of the forward making a return to the team in the 2023/24 season as well as rumours of a move either on loan or permanently, with the latter gaining traction after Manchester United’s latest move.
Manchester United using Greenwood to sweeten Hojlund deal
According to English media sources, Greenwood could now be used as an incentive for Atalanta to agree to a deal for Danish striker Hojlund whom Manchester United are believed to be interested in.
Atalanta, as well as other Italian sides Juventus, and AS Roma have expressed interest in Greenwood, and the Red Devils are hoping to use La Dea’s interest in the forward to reduce the financial implication of a deal for Hojlund.
Despite the well-laid-out plans, it is believed that Atalanta will turn down any such offers from Manchester United, as they would prefer to collect the full transfer fee of up to €60 million from any of Hojlund’s suitors.
