Maverick Moraa dances to three gold medals at regional Police jamboree

World 800m bronze medalist Mary Moraa of the National Police Service of Kenya wowed the crowds after bagging a hat trick of gold medals at the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Games (EAPCCO) in Kigali, Rwanda.

The 22 year-old who finished third during the Oregon World Championships was among the star names participating in the EAPCCO Games and duly lived up to her reputation by winning three gold medals.

Moraa who started her career as a 400m runner before gradually stepping up to the two lap race was back to her near best as she romped to her near best performance in the one lap race by clocking 51.63 to win gold in the women’s final race.

“Great performance at the land of a thousand hills during the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO) Games. Three gold medals – 800m (2:01.30), 400m (51.63) and 4x400m," she said on social media

This is the race that thrust her to global fame albeit at the junior level when she popped out of nowhere to clinch silver during the World Under 18 Championships staged in Kenya in 2017. In Rwanda, the Kenyan exhibited her now famous finishing power in the final straight to bag the individual medal and add the Kenya Police tally of golds.

In the 800m, Moraa ought to be worried despite taking top honors as she clocked a slow 2:01.30. The time is far from her personal best time of 1:56.71.

Although the track and season is only rolling out, Moraa does not have the luxury of time as the Diamond League is scheduled gun off in May paving way for a very busy schedule that requires athlete’s to be in top form.

Moraa completed her hat trick of golds with another big showing in the 4x400m relay in which she anchored the Kenya Police to a romping victory before breaking into what is become a customary dance.
