In October 2024, Kylian Mbappe was named in the centre of a wave of sexual assault allegations, despite not being formally implicated.

In an exclusive interview with L’Equipe, the Real Madrid forward broke his silence, detailing the strain on his personal life and his concern for the unnamed woman at the centre of the scandal.

Mbappé described the media frenzy in stark terms.

“I was not even concerned. It was just sad to see everyone jumping on it like it was a steak, on such a serious subject. It happens to far too many women, unfortunately, for us to jump on it for headlines and articles,” he told the aforementioned outlet.

Mbappe continued, “No one took the time to ask what happened to the potential victim. And when everyone saw that I was not in this story, what happened? She is in the gutter, no one knows where she is, we do not care. It is a sensitive subject and it made me sad.”

The Los Blancos no.10 also admitted the ordeal affected those closest to him.

He added: "I knew from the start that it would be okay, but it's complicated. Especially for those close to you, even more so for women. Whether you like it or not, you feel that in the other person's eyes, the person is thinking: 'What if there was a 1% chance that he did something?' It hurt me. I have nothing to do with it... These are human reactions from the women around me, because there are too many who go through this.

“I just had to accept it, keep quiet, go to training. Sometimes you see comments... But you accept it. Carlo (Ancelotti) told me it was unfair. I said to him: 'What should I do other than let it go and score goals?'"

Pulse Sports previously reported that Mbappé was at the centre of viral allegations of sexual assault circulating online, although no formal investigation had been confirmed at the time.

Mbappé’s representatives publicly denied the rumours as “totally false” and “a slanderous rumour.”

Swedish news outlet Expressen reported that prosecutors later confirmed a criminal complaint had been filed in Stockholm but did not name him.

Ultimately, the prosecutor closed the case in December due to insufficient evidence, confirming that there was never formal notification that Mbappé was a suspect.
