Messi assesses MLS season after play-off failure, vows to deliver more success
Lionel Messi has penned down a heartfelt review of Inter Miami’s season on his social media, saying he is proud of the team and what they have accomplished, as well as promising many more to come.
The 36-year-old joined the Miami-based MLS side last summer, rejecting a proposal from both Barcelona in Europe and Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia. His was an instant impact in Miami, leading the team to their first-ever trophy, the Leagues Cup.
However, he suffered an injury over the course of the season and this affected Inter Miami’s form, causing them to miss out on the playoffs.
What Messi said
The former Barcelona man took to his Instagram to pen the following statement:
"I am proud of everything the team accomplished this season," Messi started.
"With everyone's work and effort, we were able to win the leagues cup winning the first title in the history of Inter Miami, we reached the final of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup and we were even fighting to get into the Playoffs of MLS until the last moment.
“We are left with all the good things and above all with the desire to improve to be even more competitive next year. I would like to thank all the people at the club and the city of Miami for the support they always give us. I am sure that we will continue to live incredible moments together as has happened in recent months. A hug for everyone.”
