World Champions Argentina are off the mark in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers after another magical moment from Lionel Messi.
Messi scored the only goal of the game as Argentina defeated a stubborn Ecuador side 1-0 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

It was a match that the home side dominated but found little joy as their visitors remained resolute.
Argentina had 71 per cent of the possession and created the better chances in the game.
However, the World Champions could not find the breakthrough until late in the second half.
With 12 minutes left to play, Argentina was awarded a free kick in a dangerous area and Messi made no mistakes with a stunning goal.
It was the latest goal from the 36-year-old who has been unstoppable for his American club, Inter Miami.
Messi brightens Ballon d’Or claims
It was another game, another magic from Messi who has been nominated for another Ballon d’Or.
Messi’s latest goal takes his tally to eight in the last eight matches for the world champions who have extended their unbeaten run to 22 matches.
With his latest goal, the Inter man has now enhanced his chances of taking home another Ballon d’Or award.
He remains the favourite for the 2023 award but faces strong opposition from Manchester City’s striker, Erling Haaland.
