Michael Olunga Shows Benni McCarthy What He Will Be Missing With Back-to-Back Goals for Al-Arabi
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy omitted captain Michael Olunga from his squad for this month’s friendly matches but it is the time the striker is finding form.
Olunga missed out on the team that will feature in friendly matches against Madagascar and Comoros as McCarthy opted to test out other younger forwards with an eye on the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Olunga has been in great form for his club in the last one week, scoring in back-to-back games for his club Al-Arabi.

After scoring in their 3-1 win over Al-Sadd last weekend, Olunga showed his class again on Friday when he helped Al-Arabi secure a 2-0 victory against Al-Shahania SC.
After a goalless first half, Al-Arabi went ahead through Yazan Al-Naimat’s goal before Olunga made the points safe with the second and in some style.
Olunga Showed His Class with a Well-Taken Goal
The 31-year-old showed that he still got it with a beautifully taken goal, when he curled in from the edge of the box, and into the top corner on his stronger left foot.
It was Olunga’s fourth goal in six league games which sees him get back his scoring touch as he looks to fire his new club to glory since leaving Al Duhail in May.
The ex-Gor Mahia striker did not have a successful October international break as he failed to score in Harambee Stars’ World Cup qualifiers against Burundi and Ivory Coast but he has expressed his optimism that he will be back amongst the goals for the national team soon as he looks to become Kenya’s all-time top scorer.
"Having a coach like Benni McCarthy, who is the all-time top scorer for South Africa, it gives me motivation to believe it is achievable," Olunga told Flashscore.
"Hopefully, if I continue to work hard with the national team, God will give me the opportunity one day to be the all-time top goalscorer for Kenya."
