Mikel Obi and Champions League: Super Eagles midfielder celebrates draw participation
John Obi-Mikel, a former midfielder for the Super Eagles and Chelsea, made a memorable surprise appearance during the UEFA Champions League draw on Friday in Nyon, Switzerland.
Mikel oversaw the quarterfinal and semifinal draws after being invited by UEFA.
The Champions League will end with this draw and switch to a 36-team format for the next season.
Given that the final will take place in Wembley, England, Mikel stated during the occasion that he wanted to see an English club get to the final.
He said particularly that he was hoping Arsenal or Manchester City would advance.

Obi then took to his social media platforms to celebrate his participation with the draw.
He said, "Reunited with the 🏆 🔵 Chelsea's 2012 #UCL winner John Obi Mikel in the building 🙌
"What an honour to have the pleasure @championsleague quarter finals/ semifinals draw 💪 let’s have it 🔥🔥🔥😁"
Notably, Mikel becomes the latest member of a small group of Nigerian athletes to win the coveted Champions League championship during their careers with his net worth soaring, along with Finidi George and Kanu Nwankwo.
