Nigerian fans have taken to social media to mock five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo for his recent comments about the World Cup, employing Mikel Obi’s iconic picture in which he was lifting the AFCON 2013 title.

What Ronaldo said 

The Portuguese has previously expressed his desire to lift the World Cup title; hence, he spooked fans with his recent interview when he said winning the Euros with the Selecao is equivalent to the World Championships

"Portugal winning the Euros is the equivalent of winning the World Cup,” he said. 

“I've already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted, so I'm not motivated by that [World Cup]. I'm motivated by enjoying football and the records come naturally.”

Pulse Sports reported that the comment has attracted criticism and derision, with Afrobeats superstar Odumodublvck saying that the Al Nassr forward was tarnishing his legacy with such statements.

Every day fans on social media have joined in, as they made jokes with the comment. Super Eagles fans were not left out, as pictures of Mikel Obi lifting the AFCON title made the rounds, with captions congratulating him for winning the World Cup title.
