Mikel Obi celebrates winning 'World Cup' trophy with Super Eagles as Nigerian fans mock Ronaldo
Nigerian fans have taken to social media to mock five-time Ballon d'Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo for his recent comments about the World Cup, employing Mikel Obi’s iconic picture in which he was lifting the AFCON 2013 title.
What Ronaldo said
The Portuguese has previously expressed his desire to lift the World Cup title; hence, he spooked fans with his recent interview when he said winning the Euros with the Selecao is equivalent to the World Championships.
"Portugal winning the Euros is the equivalent of winning the World Cup,” he said.
“I've already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted, so I'm not motivated by that [World Cup]. I'm motivated by enjoying football and the records come naturally.”
Pulse Sports reported that the comment has attracted criticism and derision, with Afrobeats superstar Odumodublvck saying that the Al Nassr forward was tarnishing his legacy with such statements.
