Millions Awaiting Kenya Police and Nairobi United as CAF Doubles Prize Money
Kenyan teams featuring in CAF inter-club competitions are set to receive a massive boost after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) increased the prize money from the preliminary rounds.
CAF made a bold decision last year when it decided to start offering cash prizes to all teams that qualify for both the Champions League and Confederation Cup with each side guaranteed at least $50,000 (Ksh6.5 million).
Kenya Police and Gor Mahia, who were Kenya's representatives in the Champions League and Confederation Cup respectively, each received Ksh6.5 million when they were knocked out at the preliminary round.

Now, CAF has doubled the prize this year with each Champions League side set to pocket $100,000 (Ksh13 million) at the preliminary round.
It means Police, who will now fly Kenya's flag in the Champions League after winning the FKF Premier League, and Nairobi United, who will play Confederation Cup by virtue of winning the FKF Cup, are guaranteed at least Ksh13 million each next season which will boost their preparations.
Much More in Store for Kenyan Sides in Latter Stages
“These financial resources will contribute enormously to the development and global competitiveness of African football and investment in Youth Football development and infrastructure,” CAF president Patrice Motsepe said over the increase.
It does not end there as there is even more money if the Kenyan teams pull off a big surprise and make it to the group stages.
Group stage qualification will now attract a minimum of $700,000 (Ksh90 million) for Champions League teams while $400,000 (Ksh51 million) will go to Confederation Cup sides.
It means Police could walk away with at least Ksh90 million if they negotiate their way past the preliminary round while Nairobi United could pocket at least Ksh51 million if they reach the group stage.
Champions League quarter-finalists will be rewarded $900,000 (Ksh116 million), $1.2 million (Ksh155 million) going to semi-finalists as runners up pocket $2 million (Ksh258 million). Champions League winners will go home with $4 million (Ksh516 million).
Confederation Cup quarter-finalists will each take home $550,000 (Ksh71 million), semi-finalists $750,000 (Ksh97 million), runners-ups $1 million (Ksh129 million) as winners pocket $2 million (Ksh258 million).
