Newcastle United are reportedly keen to sign Lionel Messi who is set to leave Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ligue 1 club is understood that it is not going to extend Messi’s contract beyond this season, and this paves way for his imminent exit.
Although the Argentine could be tempted to go back to Barcelona, the La Liga club will now face a challenge in landing their target as the Magpies enter the race.

The World Cup-winning captain has scored 20 goals across all competitions this season and will be a good signing for Newcastle who stand a chance of getting a Champions League ticket.
With his experience in Europe and being considered one of the greatest players of his generation, Messi is a top player that any club would want to sign.
A number of clubs are expected to be interested in signing Messi once his departure from PSG is confirmed. Apart from Newcastle and Barcelona, the forward could be tempted by lucrative offers from the Middle East, especially Saudi Arabia.
Equally, the Magpies boast huge financial muscle and could also table a mouth-watering deal for the Argentine.
Another trick that might help Newcastle land their target is the allure of playing in the Premier League. Having won major trophies in Spain before he moved to France and lifted the Ligue 1 title, Messi would sure want to test himself in the English league should a chance present itself.
