Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has paid a heartfelt tribute to his former Real Madrid teammate Toni Kroos, who has announced his plans to retire from football after the EURO 2024.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reported that Kroos had decided to hang his boots after an illustrious career that has seen him win several titles including the FIFA World Cup.

In a lengthy social media post, Casemiro described Kroos as his "Champions partner and forever friend", reflecting on their hugely successful spell together at the Bernabeu.

"You knew when to say goodbye, so look back proudly and smile: you've earned it," Casemiro wrote, acknowledging the perfect timing of Kroos' retirement decision.

The Brazilian went on to reminisce about the pair's time as teammates, describing the gym as their "office" where they would balance serious work with moments of fun.

"How many anecdotes, victories and titles have been forged in that gym. It was our office and when it needed to get serious, we did it; and when it came to have fun, then too," Casemiro said, emphasising the deep personal bond between the two midfielders.

Kroos, who will call time on his illustrious 18-year career after EURO 2024, has long been considered one of the finest passers of the ball in world football.

Casemiro's emotional message is a fitting tribute to a true modern great, with the United man wishing his "good friend" happiness in retirement.
