Napoli or Real Madrid: Which teams could join Manchester City and Inter Milan in the last 8?
It was a historic night at the Etihad and a beautiful one at Estadio Do Dragao in Portugal after Manchester City and Inter Milan safely made it into the Champions League quarterfinals.
Manchester City produced the performance of the Champions League round of 16 so far to ease through to the quarterfinals.
City were inspired by the five-star performer and man of the match, Erling Haaland, who wrote his name in several Champions League history books on the night after he scored five goals in the 7-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig.
Pep Guardiola and City advanced to the next round with an 8-1 aggregate win following the second leg rout at the Etihad.
In Portugal, it was Inter Milan who celebrated a return amongst the big boys in the Champions League following a goalless affair with FC Porto in their round of 16 second leg.
Thanks to that narrow 1-0 win at San Siro in the first leg, Inter are now back in the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time since 2011.
But the most important question now is, which of the remaining four teams will join the duo to complete the lineup for the Champions League quarterfinals?
Walk with me for this one;
Real Madrid vs Liverpool
Two Champions League giants clash at the Santiago Bernabeu later tonight as Real Madrid host English side Liverpool.
This particular fixture looks done and dusted on paper after Real Madrid went, saw and conquered Liverpool 5-2 at Anfield in the first leg.
But we do know this game is far from over, even though Liverpool rivals, Manchester United are the only team to have come back from at least two goals down to go through at this stage of the Champions League.
Nevertheless, Los Blancos will head into this one as favourites not just because of their comfortable lead on aggregate but the fact that they are unbeaten in seven matches against the Reds whose manager Jurgen Klopp has given an interesting chance of going through.
This game is also a landmark for the most successful club in Champions League history who will become the first club to play 300 matches in the competition when they take to the pitch tonight.
Napoli vs Frankfurt
Another game that looks sealed and delivered is this one slated for the Diego Maradona Stadium in Naples.
SSC Napoli will host German side Eintracht Frankfurt with both clubs looking to write their histories.
Serie A leaders, Napoli have a comfortable 2-0 lead from the first leg but know that there is more work to be done if they are to qualify for the Champions League quarterfinal for the first time in their history.
This game is also special considering there is a Nigerian interest in Victor Osimhen, who was on target when both teams clashed in the first leg in Germany.
While Frankfurt are expected to put up a fight in this game, it will take something special from the Germans to stop Osimhen and Napoli, who average four goals per game this season in the Champions League, from a place in history.
What do you think; which of these teams will advance to the next round? Any possible miracles?
