Nashville vs Inter Miami: Messi sets sight on US Open after Leagues Cup win
Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has revealed that Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has moved on from their Leagues Cup victory.
Messi was in superb form as Inter overcame Nashville in the Leagues Cup final on Sunday morning.
The Argentine playmaker and his Miami teammates defeated Nashville on penalties after the game ended 1-1 in regular time.
Messi make history
Pulse Sports reported earlier today that Inter Miami’s shootout win earned Messi a milestone title in his career.
The 36-year-old is now the most decorated player in the world after lifting the Leagues Cup with Inter, his 44th career title.
The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain player opened the scoring against Nashville before the home side forced a penalty with a second half equaliser.
Messi eyes US Open
But moments after the Leagues Cup win, Messi had already switched focus to another title.
Inter Miami will take on Charlotte FC in the semifinals of the US Open Cup.
The encounter is slated for Wednesday and according to Inter Miami’s co-owner, Mas, Messi has already turned his attention to that clash as he eyes more memorable moments with his new club.
“"Lionel (Messi) is already focused on Wednesday's US Open Cup semi-final,” stated per a post by Roy Nemer. “He's a competitive beast,” he added.
Messi has completely turned the Inter’s fortunes just weeks after he joined the club on a free transfer from Ligue 1 champions, PSG.
He has scored 10 goals and assisted one in just seven matches since the switched to the Major League Soccer.
