Newcastle United vs Borussia Dortmund: BVB end English hoodoo with help from German-born Nigerian Nmecha

Felix Nmecha helped Borussia Dortmund to revive their UEFA Champions League hopes with a narrow win against Newcastle United.

German side Borussia Dortmund have ended their poor run against English opposition courtesy of German-born Nigerian star Felix Nmecha.

Nmecha was one of the heroes of the day as Dortmund went, saw, and conquered Newcastle United 1-0 at St. James’ Park during their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

After the brilliant win against Paris Saint Germain, Newcastle United were expected to build on that win but met a spirited Dortmund side led by Nmecha. 

The former Manchester City star turned out to be the hero of the night after he scored the decisive just before the break.

Despite a dominant display from the home side. Nmecha’s goal proved to be the difference between the two teams as Dortmund held on for the win.

Following the win, the Bundesliga side has now put an end to their poor run of six matches without a win against English opposition.

Nmecha’s goal was also the first goal the Yellow and Blacks would score in Europe this season and it was enough to guarantee three points to rekindle their UCL dreams. 

In what was the first-ever meeting between Newcastle United and Dortmund, it was the latter who left St. James’ happy.

Dortmund have now moved up to second in Group F, tied on four points with the Magpies who dropped to third.

Meanwhile, PSG are back in business after bouncing back in style with a 3-0 demolition of Italian giants AC Milan in the other Group F encounter.

The Ligue 1 giants lead the Group with six points from a possible nine.
