Newcastle Utd and Man United ranked tallest PL teams, German clubs rule Big 5 leagues
The Magpies and Red Devils have been crowned as the giants of the game in the Premier League by the reliable CIES Football Observatory.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can confirm this from the last issue of their reports for 2023, with Newcastle United and Manchester United listed as the two in the PL.
Newcastle and Man United lead
According to the report which saw CIES research 52 different leagues in the world, Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are ranked the tallest team in the Premier League with an average height of 185.08 cm.
Coming at number two is Manchester United with an average of 184.3cm, with fierce rivals Liverpool, who sit third with an average of 184.04cm.
Making up the top five in the Premier League are Nottingham Forest in fourth with an average of 183.99cm while Tottenham complete the list with an average of 183.97cm.
PL champions Manchester City have the third shortest team in the PL, with Sheffield United the shortest in England's first division.
Germany dominates the Big 5
In terms of the top five leagues, the CIES reports noted that teams from the German Bundesliga comfortably sit at the top of the height ladder alongside Serie A teams.
Bundesliga reigns supreme with six teams in the top 10 in the Big Five, with Hoffenheim the tallest team in Europe at an average height of 186.92cm.
Schalke 04, FC Heidenheim and Koln are the other Bundesliga teams in the top five, which is completed by Hellas Verona from Italy.
Meanwhile, the average height in the world is set at 181.46cm, with leagues in UEFA boasting the tallest with an average height of 182.65cm compared to 179.54cm for others.
