Neymar Debut: Al-Hilal fans reportedly boo Saudi Arabian icon for denying Brazilian forward penalty
On Neymar’s debut for Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, despite their Blue Eagles cruising to a comprehensive 6-1 victory against Al Riyadh, the mood among the fans remained sombre.
Brazilian legend, Neymar, who came off the bench for his official debut at Al-Hilal, was involved in a late incident with Saudi Arabian icon, Nasser Al Dawsari.
Neymar move to Al-Hilal
The 30-year-old became another high-profile player to join the Pro League after he left Ligue 1 giants, Paris Saint-Germain in mid-August.
Pulse Sports reported that Al-Hilal lured the talented Brazilian to Saudi Arabia with a deal that will see him earn around $300 million in 24 months.
Neymar penned a two-year contract that will see him wear the all-blue colours of the club until the summer of 2025.
He was unveiled with a giant hologram with over 60, 000 fans coming out to celebrate the arrival of the iconic Brazilian number 10 and all-time top scorer.
Four weeks later, Neymar has now made his official debut for the club in a sensational win at home.
Fans boo Saudi legend
With the Eagles leading and cruising 4-0, after Neymar assisted compatriot Malcolm for the fourth goal, Al-Hilal was awarded a penalty three minutes from time.
Neymar made attempts to take it but was denied by teammates, AL Dawsari, who had already netted a brace at the time but didn’t want to pass on the chance for a hat-trick.
The Saudi hero against Argentina at the 2022 FIFA World Cup went on to complete his hat-trick with a calm finish, but his action did not go down well with the fans.
According to a video from journalist, Sulaimon Ahmed, on X.com, fans of the club made their feelings known by booing Al Dawsari for his action.
Hold up they are booing AL-DAWSARI??
