Nigeria suffered a 71-96 loss to China in the classification game for 11th and 12th places.

The match, held in Brno, Czechia, marked the end of a promising yet challenging tournament for the young Nigerian squad, who finished 11th out of 16 teams in their first appearance.

Nigeria lose to China in rematch

The game, which tipped off earlier saw China assert their dominance from the outset in this rematch against Nigeria.

China took the first quarter 26-14, establishing early control, and followed it with a commanding 30-21 victory in the second quarter, carrying a 56-35 lead into halftime.

The third quarter saw China extend their advantage with a 23-18 scoreline but Nigeria showed resilience in the fourth, outscoring China 18-17.

Despite this late effort, China secured a 25-point victory, sealing the 71-96 final score.

Top performers for Nigeria included Nora Ezike with 12 points and 9 rebounds, Idubamo Beggi with an impressive 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, Wandoo Hembam with 10 points and 3 assists.

Abigail Isaac with 10 points and 9 rebounds, and Momolowa Tewogbade with 9 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Nigeria at U-19 Women's World Cup

The tournament journey for the D'Tigress began on a high note with a 93-88 triumph against China in the group stage.

Their momentum was halted in the second game with a resounding 113-42 loss to Canada.

In the knockout stage, Nigeria suffered a 51-77 loss to Hungary.
