Benin Republic captain Steve Mounie says the Cheetahs are fully motivated and ready to give their all when they face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Benin, led by former Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr, is currently top of Group C with 17 points from nine matches.

South Africa sits second with 15 points, while Nigeria trail in third place with 14 points, making the encounter at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, a potential group decider.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Mounie said the stakes are high and his teammates do not need extra motivation ahead of the game.

“I don’t think I need to motivate my teammates that much,” the Stade Brestois striker said.

“We all know what we are playing for tomorrow, which is bigger than any individual. Everyone knows what we have to do to get a qualification. We will give our best on the pitch," he added.

A win for Benin would seal their place at the 2026 World Cup, while Nigeria must secure all three points and hope for a favourable result between South Africa and Rwanda to keep their qualification hopes alive.
