Former Nigerian international Brown Ideye has hailed Eric Chelle’s tactical switch following the Super Eagles' win against Lesotho.

Chelle made a tactical shift to a two-striker formation in Nigeria’s 2-1 win against Lesotho on Friday during their FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The Mailian tactician paired Victor Osimhen and Tolu Arokodare as a double pivot in attack in a 4-4-2 formation.

The Galatasaray forward was also paired alongside Akor Adams in the second half, with both players combining to score the second goal of the game.

Ideye pleased with Chelle’s tactics

Ideye was pleased with Chelle’s formation and urged the team to develop a more ruthless edge in front of goal.

Speaking on the SuperSport program Naija Made, Ideye expressed his approval of the team's attacking intent but called for a higher goal tally.

"I was impressed to see the team find the net twice after recent struggles in front of goal," Ideye commented.

He advised the players to "run back and keep pushing for more goals" immediately after scoring, emphasising that goal difference could prove decisive for World Cup qualification.

Ideye, a long-time advocate for a change in Nigeria's tactical approach, was pleased to see the team line up in a 4-4-2 formation.

He pointed out that in previous matches, star striker Victor Osimhen was often left to carry the attacking burden alone.

"Osimhen often found himself isolated," Ideye explained. "He cannot do it alone and needs a partner capable of linking up and sharing the workload in attack."

In Group C, Nigeria stands as the only nation to have scored in every qualifying match. Despite this consistency, their total of 11 goals in nine games is only the third-best attacking record, trailing both Benin and South Africa, who have each scored 12.
