The Ugandan national team is set to play three international test matches in Johannesburg from July 12 to 16. These games are a critical part of their preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Both Nanyonga and Nalwanja bring significant leadership experience to their new roles. Nanyonga is the captain of NIC Netball Club, while Nalwanja leads the reigning National Netball League champions, KCCA Netball Club.

This appointment marks another significant milestone for Nanyonga, who is preparing for her second appearance at the Commonwealth Games after her debut in the 2018 edition. She feels her growth over the years has prepared her for this moment.

"During my first Commonwealth Games, I was very young and naive," Nanyonga stated as quoted by New Vision Uganda.

"This time, I have gained enough experience. Being my second Commonwealth Games, I feel ready, and I believe my team is also ready."

She emphasised the importance of the series against South Africa, noting it will allow the coaching staff to evaluate the squad's preparedness and help players pinpoint areas for improvement before the main event in Glasgow.

Assistant captain Nalwanja, who will also be competing in her second Commonwealth Games following her debut in Birmingham in 2022, shares this optimism.

"We are ready for the big stage," said Nalwanja. "The team has prepared well, and we are now looking forward to the matches. The South Africa test series will be important in helping us build confidence ahead of the Commonwealth Games."

The 15-player She Cranes squad is scheduled to travel to Johannesburg on July 11 and return on July 17. The team will then depart for Glasgow on July 21 for the Commonwealth Games, which run from July 23 to August 2.
