Nigerian government reacts to Anthony Joshua's knockout win against Francis Ngannou
The fight between British professional boxer of Nigerian descent Anthony Oluwafemi Joshua and Cameroonian and French professional mixed martial artist Francis Ngannou dominated the trends on social media.
In just the second round of their heavyweight match in Riyadh, Anthony Joshua defeated Francis Ngannou with a remarkable and forceful performance.
Against former two-time world champion Anthony Joshua, Ngannou was hoping for something similar to his fight against Tyson Fury.
The former UFC champion got off to a confident start but was immediately taken out by a powerful right from Joshua, who knocked him out in the first round.
In round two, Joshua smelled blood and sent Ngannou hurtling with another massive right before quickly ending the job with another lethal right.
Several top celebrities took to social media to praise Joshua for his victory against Ngannou.
The Nigerian government led by Sports Minister John Owan-Enoh has now given his thoughts on Joshua's success.
He posted a message on his official social media platforms to celebrate Joshua's victory.
The message by the sports minister said, "Spectacular second-round knockout it was nothing short of amazing!
"Congratulations Anthony Joshua🇳🇬. You give us pride and joy."
Joshua is now expected to return later in the year for a fight against Filip Hrgovic.
