Nigerian referee dies in car accident after officiating Nasarawa United vs Plateau United

The Nigeria Referees Association (NRA) have announced that Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) assistant referee Kingsley Nnaemeka Eneogwe, has died, after being involved in a fatal accident on Thursday.

Eneogwe, a medical doctor and a member of the Abia State referees council, was one of the match officials in charge of Plateau United's 2-1 victory over Nasarawa United in game week 5 of the NPFL on Wednesday.

The 2-1 victory at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, was the Jos club's second win of the 2023 season, and first at an away ground.

NRA mourn Eneogwe's death

In a statement on Friday, the NRA said: "With heart filled in sadness, the NRA has received the news of the death of a premier league referee of the Abia State council, Kingsley Nnaemeka Eneogwe who died in a fatal motor accident yesterday on his way back home on Abuja-Kogi Enugu road after handling a premier league match in Kaduna.

"Until his death, he was a medical doctor. The NRA leadership has established contact with the family and council over the matter after sending condolences.

"The association is not only in touch but also working with the family on the next step. May his soul rest in peace," the statement concluded.
