Obi Mikel blasts Chelsea’s new signings and Boehly in epic rant

Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has criticized Chelsea’s co-owner Todd Boehly and the players he has signed for the club.

Chelsea’s ownership underwent a change of hands, with the American replacing Roman Abramovich in the summer.

Under him, the Blues have spent over £600 million on players, but this has failed to help Chelsea mount a significant campaign in the Premier League.

Some of the marquee transfers by the club include the signing of Enzo Fernandez, in a £106.8 million deal that broke the British transfer record. Mykhailo Mudryk was signed from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88.5 million.

"I don’t think anyone can make sense of what is going on," Mikel told Dubai Eye 103.8 Sport.

"Players are coming in through the door. I read articles saying that Todd Boehly is looking at Arsenal’s radar and whomever Arsenal is going after.

"Some players, when you look at them, are not Chelsea players. Some of them are not good on the ball. When you look at the way the team was playing before Graham Potter got sacked, nothing was happening. There was no spark.

"Nothing was going on. When you watch the games, you think. Where are the goals going to come from? Where is the magic going to come from?"

However, the retired Super Eagle, who made 372 appearances for Chelsea in a successful stint at Stamford Bridge, lauded the return of Frank Lampard.

"With Frank Lampard coming back, he knows the club. Let’s hope we will start playing well and get some good results," he added.

As Lampard guides the team on an interim basis, his hope is to finish the season in a respectable position.

With the Premier League title out of reach, the Blues’ hope for a trophy this season lies in their Champions League campaign.

However, they face a daunting task as they are lined up to play Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.
