In a dramatic Serie A opener on Saturday, David Okereke’s Cremonese pulled off a sensational shock by defeating AC Milan at the iconic San Siro stadium.

The Super Eagles forward played a key role, featuring for 65 minutes as his side outclassed the Rossoneri, who saw fellow Nigerian Samuel Chukwueze come off the bench late in the game.

Cremonese began the match confidently, taking the lead in the 28th minute and setting the tone for an upset on Milan’s home turf.

AC Milan responded before halftime with a goal from Strahinja Pavlovic, leveling the score to make it all square at the break.

But the visitors weren’t done yet. Just after the hour mark, Federico Bonazzoli unleashed a stunning strike, already being hailed as an early contender for goal of the season, that put Cremonese ahead once more and ultimately secured their memorable victory.

Amid the intense battle, Chukwueze invited for 2026 FIFA WCQ was introduced late for Milan, on the 65th minute, when fellow Nigerian Okereke was taken off by the visitors, adding an attacking threat as the Rossoneri sought an equaliser.

However, Cremonese held firm to complete their impressive weekend win. In his time on the pitch, the 26-year-old failed to create a chance, make a key pass but completed 100% of his dribbles.

This result marks a significant statement from Cremonese and shows the rising influence of Nigerian talent in Serie A, with the duo of Okereke and Chukwueze pivotal in the high drama at the San Siro.
