Napoli are champions of Italy once again, but not without creating unwanted Serie A history on the way to the title.
Despite lifting their fourth Scudetto in the 2024/25 season, the Partenopei now hold one of Serie A’s least flattering records.
Conte and McTominay lead Napoli to title
Antonio Conte, true to his reputation, pulled off yet another managerial masterstroke by leading Napoli to the Serie A title in his debut season, just like he did with Juventus and Chelsea.
Conte’s fifth Serie A title with his third Italian team came down to the final matchday, with Inter Milan breathing down Napoli’s neck.
But a composed 2-0 win over Cagliari, sealed by goals from Romelu Lukaku and Scott McTominay, clinched the title by just one point.
McTominay, who had a standout season, became the first Scottish player in over 100 years to achieve win the Scudetto and was rewarded with the Serie A MVP award.
Napoli sets bizarre Scudetto record
As impressive as the title win was, Napoli’s stats sheet tells a different story that breaks an unwanted 14-year record.

With just 57 goals scored all season, Napoli have now set the record as the lowest-scoring team to win Serie A in the modern 20-team format, beating AC Milan's 65-goal tally in the 2010–11 campaign.
On a more positive note, Napoli also became the first club in the 20-team Serie A era to win the title after finishing 10th the previous season, breaking a record previously held by Conte’s Juventus side, who had climbed from seventh to champions in 2011–12.
Despite huge setbacks during the season, such as losing Victor Osimhen at the start of the campaign and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January, Conte still managed to get the business done and is unlikely to be bothered by how the title was won.
